Wednesday Night Lights

Hey everyone! This week has been quite the adventure, and it seems like it's been such a long time since I got to email y'all. So here are a few of the highlights from this week.

I got the cops called on me for the first time. I was on exchange on Wednesday with Elder Blight, he's our district leader. We were out tracting in a neighborhood, probably around 8 at night. We said a prayer and asked for guidance in finding those people who were ready to hear our message. I guess the Lord thought nobody in that neighborhood was ready, because before we even got a chance to knock on the first door a police car flipped on its lights and spotlighted us. He said that they had gotten multiple calls from people in the area. Then he said "you guys aren't doing anything illegal, but you're freaking people out." So we decided to go to a different place and visit some former investigators.

We've been doing a lot more biking. We only have a certain amount of miles we can drive every month so we are required to bike at least 2 days every week. I'm really feeling Elder Calhoun`s sentiments from the best two years. You do get quite the workout.

The food is good as always. The branch President invited us over for thanksgiving dinner, so that's pretty dope. I'm excited to see what southern traditions get thrown my way.

Elder Lee and I are still trying to find ways to I prove our finding. Our zone has a goal of 16 total commitments by the end of this transfer. A total commitment is when someone has been to church twice and is on date for baptism. It seems simple enough, but when you don't have anyone to teach it gets a little more complicated. We got one referral from Mormon.org so we have 1 new investigator named Victoria. She is pretty solid. Then we have 3 other investigators named Maddy, Megan, and Michael. Maddy is a college soccer player who has a boyfriend on a mission, she's super busy all the time but she is slowly progressing. Megan and Michael have been investigating since the beginning of this year, but they aren't married and are still living together. Megan is ready to be baptized, but she can't be until they get married or one of them moves out. So we will see how it turns out.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. Talk to you in a week!

Elder Bates

Southern word for this week: fixin
This word can be a noun and a verb. As a noun it is usually a side dish for some meal. Like baked beans or potato salad. Something like that. As a verb, it means you're thinking about doing something. The more you know.

1. Elder Lee and I made pumpkin surprise
2. Everyone please pray for elder Cooper. Nothing is wrongnor anything, he's just weird. 😂

(Mom note: I snagged these other two photos from Facebook, but thought I would include them here. It's good to know that he is doing things other than just eating!)
